Major indexes today finished higher as surprisingly strong durable-goods
orders offset worries about Tropical Storm Gustav's impact on oil prices; light,
sweet crude rose $1.88 to settle at $118.15 per barrel on the New York
Mercantile Exchange. An indication that
manufacturing is actually holding in quite well, one markets strategist relates
the upbeat news as a huge encouragement.
After the closing bell, Dow rose 90 points to 11,503; Nasdaq climbed
20.49 points to 2,382.46; and The S&Ps 500 index gained 10.15 points to
1,281.66. Several stocks were up on
their M&A and buybacks news/update. |

After traveling between positive and negative turf, all but one of the
major indexes today secured positive territory in light trade. Oil prices closed off the day's high and fell
after the U.S. Energy Department reported weaker year-over-year domestic demand
for oil, easing hurricane worries.
Several stocks, which include Hewlett Packard Co., (NYSE: HPQ), Amen
Properties (NSDQ: AMEN) and Mercado Libre (NSDQ: MELI) traded in the red, amid
words/updates on their respective merger and acquisition deals. |

Capstone
MicroTurbine, producer and seller of microturbine systems to end-users in North
America, Asia, Europe and Russia,
continues to address environmental concerns, which go hand in hand with today's
advancing technologies. In the case of electricity generation, harmful gas
emissions are produced in the process - leading Capstone to develop
microturbine that meets extremely low global emission requirements, including California’s stringent
distributed generation emissions standard. |
